      Employment Type: Contract

      Policy Analyst

      APPLY NOW

      Location: .. Salary: £30,000

You will lead our clients work mapping out which European countries hold the highest potential for engagement to further our objective of boosting public R&D funding for sustainable proteins. You will make strategic recommendations about which countries have the highest potential for positive impact in, and you will start to build relationships with national-level policymakers, researchers, companies and NGOs. You will complete three deliverables as part of this project:

      Deliverable 1:

      • Carry out desk research on approximately 20 European countries, looking at factors such as the level of public R&D funding dedicated to food, agriculture and climate change mitigation, the existing research ecosystem, the position of national governments on sustainable proteins, and the relative influence of national governments on EU policy.
      • Shortlist approximately 10 countries for deeper investigation.

      Deliverable 2:

      • Conduct deep-dive ecosystem mapping into these 10 European countries, using creative and analytical thinking to identify opportunities for engagement.
      • Build initial relationships with national-level stakeholders (policymakers, climate and global health NGOs, researchers, companies) to map ecosystems and to motivate other actors to promote sustainable proteins.
      • Weigh up the various inputs you have received and make detailed, strategic recommendations about the top five countries for us to prioritise. You will consider existing sustainable protein ecosystems as well as where there is potential to grow sustainable protein ecosystems in future.

      Deliverable 3:

      • Develop thoughtful, strategic and comprehensive engagement plans for five European countries, outlining what opportunities exist for GFI to advance its mission and which actors to work with.
      • Continue fostering relationships with stakeholders and policymakers in these countries.

      Other/ Miscellaneous

      • Potentially oversee contractors to assist you in fulfilling the national-level mapping.
      • Coordinate with colleagues across all GFI functions as necessary – policy, science and technology, corporate engagement, communications, development and operations.
      • Collate and present your results in a well-organised and clear fashion.
      • Perform other tasks as required.

      Who we’re looking for

      You must have:

      • A passion for GFI’s philosophy and mission.
      • The ability to think and act strategically, including weighing complex factors and coming to well-argued conclusions.
      • The ability to take ownership of, organise and independently lead a multi-faceted project.
      • Excellent people-skills and the ability to build strong, collaborative and positive relationships with external stakeholders.
      • Enthusiasm, a strong work ethic, self-motivation, and a sense of ownership and responsibility for delivering results.
      • Strong prioritisation and time management skills to manage multiple workflows simultaneously and meet deadlines.
      • Very strong written skills.
      • Comfort working remotely in a rapidly evolving organisation.
      • A good level of IT literacy, including comfort working with spreadsheets (additional support and training will be available for this – you don’t need to be a tech-wizard to apply!)
      • Fluent English (at CEFR C1 level), both written and spoken. We would welcome applications from candidates who, in addition, can work in other European languages.

It would be an advantage – but it is not a requirement – to have:

      • Experience in one or more of the following: analysis, policy, relationship-building, or other relevant areas.
